Breaking Free from “The Money Trap”

I want to share something personal with you. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is for things we value—money, security, comfort, even good intentions—to quietly take hold of our hearts. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re trapped. I see it in my own life, and I know it’s true for many of us: we can be chasing things that promise life but end up keeping us from it.

This Sunday at Mount Lebanon, we continue our Kingdom Currency series with Week 4: “The Money Trap.” We’ll walk alongside the rich young ruler—a man who had everything by the world’s standards, yet felt something was missing. Jesus doesn’t scold him. He points to the one thing keeping him from the life he’s longing for: his wealth. And here’s the beautiful part—Jesus isn’t taking from him to leave him empty. He’s inviting him (and us) into freedom, into healing, and into a life that is truly full.

🪤 The Trap We Don’t Always See

We might not realize it, but many of us are caught in subtle traps. Money, security, comfort, or even the need to look “good” can quietly rule our hearts. We may think these things bring safety, happiness, or control, but in reality, they can keep us from fully experiencing Jesus’ life-giving freedom.

Jesus’ Invitation

The good news is, Jesus offers a way out. The rich young ruler needed to let go of what he was holding tightly, and we do too—whatever it is that keeps us from fully trusting Him. When we do, something amazing happens: our hearts are healed, our minds find peace, and we experience joy that no money or status can give.

Jesus calls us to release the snare so we can step into life on His terms. It’s not always easy, but it’s freeing. And when we hold on to Him instead of our traps, we experience promises that are life-changing: freedom from worry, a heart overflowing with joy, and treasures that last for eternity.

🎶 Special Music This Sunday

We are thrilled to welcome the Wisconsin Lutheran High School A Cappella Choir to lead us in worship. Their music will lift our hearts and enrich our time in God’s Word.

🍪 Super Snack Sunday

Bring a favorite snack to share! Before or after worship, let’s linger, connect, and enjoy fellowship with one another. It’s a simple way to celebrate community and generosity together.

💛 Door Offering for WLHS

We’ll also be taking a door offering to support the ministry and students at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Thank you for helping encourage the next generation in their faith!

I hope you’ll join us this Sunday. Come as you are, bring your heart (and a snack!), and let’s discover together the freedom Jesus offers when we let go of the traps that hold us back. I can’t wait to worship with you!
