📖 The Prophet’s Mantel: Taking on the Work of the Harvest
He stood alone.
Elijah, prophet of the Lord, faced down King Ahab with a message no one wanted to hear:
“As surely as the Lord lives… there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”
It wasn’t a message of comfort. It was a word of judgment. Ahab and Jezebel had led Israel astray, filling the land with idols and injustice. Elijah was sent to call them back—and to call them out. It was a message that put him in danger. And so, after delivering it, Elijah ran.
He hid by a brook, depending on birds for bread and meat. He wandered into the territory of Sidon—a foreign land—and met a desperate widow gathering sticks to make one last meal. She didn’t expect her life to change that day. Neither did Elijah. But both would be sustained by the miraculous provision of God.
Elijah’s story isn’t just a page in the past. It’s a mirror for the present.
He was bold and afraid, powerful and weary, alone and yet sustained.
He stood for truth in a world that didn’t want it.
He carried God’s Word in his mouth and relied on God’s care for his life.
He was one man—and still, God used him to change everything.
And now, that same calling rests on us.
That’s the heart of our new series at Mount Lebanon:
The Prophet’s Mantel: Taking on the Work of the Harvest.
Elijah’s ministry wasn’t easy, but it was faithful.
It wasn’t glamorous, but it was fruitful.
It wasn’t his alone—and neither is it ours.
The Holy Spirit now casts the prophet’s mantel over us.
Not just over pastors.
Not just over teachers.
But over every baptized believer—every follower of Jesus.
You and I are called into the same work: to speak truth, to call people home, to care for the hurting, and to walk by faith in the wilderness. We are the Spirit’s harvesters.
So here’s what’s next…
This Sunday at 9:30 AM, we begin the journey with Elijah in 1 Kings 17. We’ll also install our newest teachers and celebrate God’s provision with a joyful party—filled with food, fun, and connection. It’s a moment to gather and go, to be reminded of the mission, and to recommit to the work.
Elijah’s story was full of highs and lows—but God’s hand never left him.
Neither will it leave you.
The mantel has fallen.
Let’s pick it up together.
Worship with us this Sunday at 9:30 AM.
Come for the Word.
Stay for the celebration.
Step into the harvest.
